Exciting opportunity for upper-level undergraduate students

CCBS Undergraduate Summer Institute (CUSI)

June 2 to June 4, 2015

This summer, the Center for Cognitive and Brain Sciences (CCBS) at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio is hosting its inaugural program for upper-level undergraduate students. The CCBS Undergraduate Summer Institute (CUSI) is a three-day survey program designed for students who wish to learn more about cognitive science as an interdisciplinary field and possibly pursue an academic career in research. This summer’s program will run from June 2 to June 4, 2015.

CUSI will feature seminars on diverse topics within the broad area of cognitive science, such as language, perception, memory, and decision-making. Students will also attend hands-on workshops each afternoon, where they will gain an extensive introduction to skills such as neuroimaging data analysis and computational modeling. Seminars and workshops will be led by OSU faculty members with specific expertise and research interests on these selected topics in cognitive science. Throughout the program, students will be given opportunities to speak informally with OSU faculty members and graduate students from various departments and participate in enrichment activities.  The final day of the program will culminate with a keynote address and a celebratory evening reception.

Application Requirements and Process:

CUSI will be accepting 10-15 students for enrollment. Applicants must be U.S. citizens who are enrolled in a 4-year university with a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.0. Students both within and outside OSU will be granted consideration for acceptance.

Interested applicants must submit a completed application, CV/Resume, one letter of recommendation and a statement of interest (1000 words or less) to ccbs@osu.edu .The deadline for applications is Thursday, April 30, 2015. Fees:

Tuition is $120, and will cover instruction fees, workshop materials and breakfast and lunch each day. Dormitory housing is available upon request for the duration of the program for an additional fee of $30/night for a shared room, or $60/night for a single room.

Limited financial aid available for CUSI, and is granted based on merit and need. Students who wish to be considered for financial aid must attach a paragraph to their application indicating financial need and justification.

Schedule and location:

CUSI runs June 2 – 4, 2015.  Programming starts at 8:00am each day.  On Tuesday and Wednesday, programming will conclude at 4:00pm. Programming will include lectures, workshops, and interactive discussions.  On Thursday, a keynote address and reception will follow the afternoon sessions and conclude at 6:30pm. All events will take place in The Ohio State University Psychology Building, 1835 Neil Avenue, Columbus, Ohio, 43210.
