Our current research focuses broadly on the recognition of facial expressions of emotion and its neural substrates.  This has evolved into two main projects.  The first project investigates our ability to recognize compound emotional expressions such as awe, hatred, and happily surprised and their associated neural architecture. The second project uses the natural human ability to recognize different facial expressions of emotion as a tool to better understand the neural and behavioral differences between clinical populations (e.g., PTSD, ASD) and neurotypical individuals.
